Mitosis - The process by which most cells in the body divide.
These divisions are often finite in number, due to lengths of non-essential DNA on the ends of chromosomes, called telomeres, these are used up slightly in every division and protect the essential DNA from damage. Normal cells can not repair these telomeres. Only gametes (sperm and ova) and cancer cells possess the enzyme telomerase which repairs the telomeres and essentially makes the cells immortal.
